The more I write in this blog, the more I realize I cannot claim any of these recipes. Anything that I have ever learned about cooking–and for that matter, eating–started with my family.
My apron is blue and so are Mom’s and Grandma’s. My cousin’s has pink and brown in it, and my two aunts have red and green. In the picture, we model our new Christmas presents just after my mother handed the surprise Christmas gifts to everyone.
As with most families, we like to cook. Family gatherings are centered on meals, and everyone brings something to contribute. We constantly discuss our desire to compile our varied recipes into a single book, but as of yet, this project remains untouched. That is, until the day I decided to do something useful with my spare time. With the help of my assorted aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, parents, and grandmother, I plan on documenting every recipe in our hypothetical book.
Not only is this blog a chance for some delicious food to enter the kitchen, it offers an excuse to reach out to my family. I’ve never been the best at keeping in touch, but when the recipe card lists only the ingredients and nothing else, a call to someone has to happen. And so, just as it has always done, our family is brought together around the topic of food.
